Day 12: Spicers to the left of me, Spicers to the right

I'll be honest, I anticipated today would be a long one very early on as Jac rolled into the kitchen, sleep still in his eyes and his pillow still imprinted on his face, groaning only one word for the first 15 minutes: 'toooooast'.
After a good night sleep, leaving bed was a challenge and getting out the door a last minute hurry. BUT, the day quickly recovered and, as we feasted on slow cooked Tuscan chicken this evening and reflected on what Day 12 has brought us, these highlights and things to be grateful for sprung to mind:
The abundance of Spicers! Maggie, Ian and Adam all joined us for Day 12, with Adam gracing Ailie and I with his presence on support crew, and Maggie and Ian taking to the footpath. It was again such a treat to welcome more people to the team and cheer them on as they conquered the hills and the rain (it was bound to happen at some point!).
Uneventfulness of the day! That may seem seem like a slightly bizarre thing to be grateful for but what it means is that the walkers made good and steady progress through today's wind, sunshine and showers, everyone remained safe and well with the first aid kit remaining in its bag and no one received a parking fine... despite the pay & display machine's best attempts!
Yet another ferry trip...sort of! After 12 consecutive days of walking, any chance to rest their blistered feet is welcomed by the boys. Today's trip was slightly less desirable, however, with the crossing coinciding with low-tide. Most of the estuary's crossing was undertaken by foot, the ferry's operator appeared almost as grumpy as Jac pre-toast, and our walkers were charged £4.75 each for a two minute trip! 'Rip-off!' (Holder, J. 2025)
One of life's simple pleasures - the trusty slow cooker! We've enjoyed a slower evening filled with deep theological debate, good food and great company.
Family. Today I am so very grateful for the families we each have at home supporting and encouraging us as we plod towards the finish line, as well as the family of friends I have had the absolute pleasure of spending the last couple of weeks with.
We look forward to another shorter day tomorrow, yet another thing for which we are grateful, especially if the weather predictions are correct! This evening, Jac's shower turned into a two hour nap so maybe tomorrow's start will be a little bit more spritely too. Who knows... come back tomorrow to find out!
In the meantime, take a look at these snaps of a Spicer-abundant day! Day 12: Wonwell Beach to Soar Mill Cove, 13.82 miles, 35,438 steps, 966m ascent.
