Day 14: New Levels of Delirium!

What a difference a day makes! After yesterday's relentless rain and wind, today blessed us with amazing sunshine, a gentle breeze here and there, and the occasional cloud cover - a welcome gift for the walkers!

We kicked off the day at Lannacombe Beach, a spot that the support crew were more than happy to wave goodbye to - I don't think any of us want to drive down those roads again...! Once everyone was suited and booted, we couldn't start the day without singing "Happy Birthday" to our lovely Katie (even if she was a bit embarrassed by it..!)

Our first aid station of the day was at Torcross, where the walkers were able to grab a quick snack and top up their water bottles but not long before setting back off again to Blackpool Sands. It was here that the support team made their own breakthrough of the day. Thanks to Adam Spicer, we managed to actually finish 1 and half crosswords!! It might have taken us just over an hour, but hey, at least we did it!

Just before Aid station 2, Jon had a bit of a surprise that quickly became his highlight of the day. Although momentarily confused (and slightly alarmed) at the fact that two people were making a B-line for him across a car park, he was pleasantly surprised to see that it was actually his aunt and uncle. Having tracked him down from using the GPS tracker on the blog, they joined Jon and the team to Blackpool Sands to show their support for the walk.

As the day went on and the temperature got warmer, the team pushed on to Dartmouth, determined to get to the finish line. The boys have seemed to make this whole process just look so easy, but the reality is that it's far from it. The toll that it's taking on the boys is slowly starting to show day by day as we edge towards the finish line. Despite the limping, the knee braces, the icing each night and the continuously sore feet, watching the determination that Jon and Jac have to get over the finish line is becoming more and more admirable.

When finishing the day by determining what our highlights were, despite the delirium and laughter that it took for us to put our list on paper, it's been lovely to see all of the amazing moments we've had, from:

  • Mel's morning update which had us all in stitches laughing

  • The stunning views across the coastal path that made the pain that bit easier

  • The constant banter, laughter and joy we've all shared

  • The DCYC nostalgia Adam, Katie and Laura had whilst passing through Slapton and Blackpool Sands

  • And of course, having Laura here on the team! It's been a real highlight having her here with us today

  • And lastly, the fact that today we've HIT THE 200 MILE MARK. Over 200 miles walked... can you believe it?!

I think the biggest reflection we've all had today is that there are only 4 days left of this incredible adventure....how has this flown by so quickly?! And... what are we going to do next week when all of this is over?

Maybe we'll just need to convince Jon to come up with another slightly mad idea.... (we say "slightly" with a little bit of seriousness, a little bit not).

After another 15.87 miles, 788m ascent and 38,862 steps, take a look at some of today's moments.
