What a short day Day 3 has been! But one packed with laughter, cheering and yet more miles.
Jon and Jac had an earlier start this morning thanks to a shorter drive to where we left off Day 2. They found a good rhythm today with cooler temperatures that made for much more comfortable walking… Jon even got his jumper out of his bag for the first time! Although now down to two, they shared the path with lots of walkers (some going the extra mile - pardon the pun - and walking the whole SW Coast Path from Minehead to Poole), cows with bells adorning their necks and were greeted by the wave of a couple of seals.
The green t-shirts again proved useful in spotting the walkers from some distance as, when appearing from over the brow of the hill, they were met with the applause and cheers of the primed customers sitting outside the Kynance Cove beachfront cafe. This was just one of many examples of the kindness of strangers today, some of whom we chatted with as the boys refuelled ready to take on the final stretch.
Perhaps they refuelled too well as they even beat the support crew to the days’ End Point! Unable to find parking there, the support crew had taken to a nearby signal-less beach to nap while they awaited the new predicted finish time… Turns out looking after Jac and Jon for three days is tiring work too!
Now back at our lodgings, the pace of the day may be catching up with us… pure hysterical laughter and naps have taken over in equal measure… actually, maybe there’s more of the former! Tonight, we’ll be enjoying pasta bake and an early night ahead of another day (plus fourteen!).
Although he remains in high spirits, Jon’s knee is sore. If you’re of the praying type, please pray for complete healing!
Here are some snaps from Day 3 - Porthleven to Cadgwith: 37,243 steps and we’ve lost count of miles!
