Day 4: A Step into the Unknown

ree

How is it Day 4 already?!

It feels like we only just set off, boots fresh and energy high, but time is truly flying by and the miles are piling up. Today marked a major milestone for the boys. Until now, they have only ever trained for 3 consecutive days of walking, so 4 was the start of unchartered territory.

We kicked off the day in the quaint fishing town of Cadgwith where the only sounds to our Sunday morning were birdsong and gentle waves hitting the shore. (That and a few grunts from the boys trying to get their boots on!) Once they'd set off, the support team jumped into their now well-rehearsed routine: scouting out a car park with enough phone signal to share updates with all of you following along at home. Your messages, reactions, and encouragement have been such a boost to everyone in the team - thank you for being with us every step of the way.

The boys hit the trail with determination, but it wasn't long before they had to stop to take in the breathtaking views of Black Head. It very quickly became their favourite part of the day - a chance to take in the beauty of God's creation around them and just be.

Not long after, came the second highlight of the day: a video call from YOU - Cranbrook Church! Hearing all of your voices and seeing your smiling faces was real a boost for the boys - encouraging them to get back up and continue walking.

Midway through the day came the first aid station in the absolutely beautiful village of Coverack - the kind of beauty that stops you in your tracks. That being said, the support team quickly learned that Ailie has the ability to fall asleep quite literally anywhere... from concrete walls on a beach, to a car park bench in Cadgwith - still with her walkie talkie in hand though, ready to go at any given moment.

Once the boys refuelled, they pushed on to their second stop of the day - Porthoustock. By now, the weather had started to shift. What started as a relatively breezy and bright day started to turn stickier and tougher as the wind faded; the air heavy with humidity. It's surprising how a large tree with some shade can quickly become one of the highlights of the day!

By the time 2 o'clock came, the boys were now ready to push on to today's finish line - Flushing, near Helston; a peaceful little cove that offered the perfect reward for a tough day's walk - a dip! Pip & Beau were quick to dive in for a celebratory swim, and it wasn't long before Jon & Jac joined them to cool off before coming home.

We are now in our lodgings, resting up and loading our bellies with Spaghetti Bolognese - although with an extra special treat; The Truscott's! Having their friendly faces here has brought a real sense of home, giving us all a much-needed boost before heading in to Day 5 tomorrow.

In the meantime, take a look at some photos and videos from today, along with today's stats: 15.33 miles, 568.7m of elevation and 38,254 steps.
